What the Dead have taught me about Life

We are all intuitive. With intention and practice, anyone can connect with loved ones who have passed on to the “other side.”

A portion of my work involves doing just that—connecting with guides, ancestors, and beings who have crossed over. Over the years, I’ve chosen to avoid diving too deeply into external teachings or ideologies about what happens after death. I didn’t want to filter my experiences through someone else’s lens. I wanted to stay open, to let the unseen speak for itself.

Here is what I’ve learned from 15+ years of connecting with those on the other side:

They miss food.

Food doesn’t quite exist the same way in the spirit realm. I’m often surprised by how frequently these beings mention the foods they loved— fresh baked chocolate chip cookies, pepperoni pizza, and blueberries. There’s a longing for the physical experience of eating.

There are no limitations.

Beings on the other side don’t operate under the same constraints we do. Time and space don’t apply in the same way. They can be in multiple places at once, appear instantly, and communicate without words. They don’t move linearly through time.

Emotions are experienced differently.

Fear, jealousy, possessiveness—some of these “stickier” emotions seem to dissipate once a soul crosses over. I’ve seen departed loved ones genuinely celebrate their beloveds finding new relationships, with no trace of bitterness. There’s often a deep sense of peace, acceptance, and humor in how they relate emotionally.

Some get stuck in a hell-like state.

There is a kind of purgatory. Some souls remain trapped in the Earthly realm, looping in confusion, grief, or attachment. These beings often fixate on a particular person, place, or unresolved issue. This state isn’t a punishment—it’s more like a paralysis of consciousness. To me, this may be the closest thing to what we’ve traditionally called hell.

They are not necessarily enlightened.

Crossing over doesn’t guarantee more awareness or enlightenment. Some souls still carry wounds, patterns, or distortions. While they may have expanded awareness and access to broader perspectives, they’re still evolving—just from a different vantage point.

They can become our guides.

Many beings love to serve. It’s not uncommon for them to become part of our “non-physical support team.” I’ve witnessed clients develop profound, ongoing relationships with loved ones after they’ve passed—sometimes more profound and more healing than the relationships they had in life.

The other side is real—more real than here.

Contrary to the misty, ethereal images often portrayed in movies, the other side is vivid. Alive. Tangible. Many beings describe it as more real than Earth. They call it home—a place of unconditional love, joy, and growth. And it’s not spiritually stiff or serious. There’s humor, mischief, and play. There’s music, movement, and laughter. Evolution continues there—but it’s not heavy.

They visit us often.

You are never alone. Ever. We are surrounded by ancestors, guides, soul family, and other loving energies more than we realize. Often, when you randomly think of someone who has passed, it’s because they are with you, gently nudging your awareness. Our loved ones enjoy sending signs—animals, songs, numbers, even unexpected scents or feelings. These are not coincidences. They’re calling cards from beyond.

Some are eager to return. Others never want to come back.

There’s no one-size-fits-all view on reincarnation. Some beings are thrilled to be done with the Earth experience and feel a deep sense of relief. Others can’t wait to return. They miss the tangibility, the relationships, the chaos, and the beauty. Earth is challenging, complex, and precious. Some spirits crave the ride again, while others are relieved to be done.

Final Thoughts

Connecting with the other side has taught me that death is not an end. It’s a transition—a change of form, not essence. The soul continues. The love remains. You don’t have to be psychic to experience this. Just open. Quiet. Willing.

The veil is thinner than we think.
